When to turn images into a PDF
PDF is the standard format for documents that need to look the same everywhere. Converting images to a single PDF is the easiest way to:
- Submit documents — visa, university and job applications often require ID scans, certificates or receipts as one PDF.
- Send multi-page scans — photograph each page of a contract with your phone, then combine them in the right order.
- Share photo collections — one PDF is easier to email than twenty separate attachments.
- Print reliably — A4 or Letter pages with margins print correctly on any printer.
Choosing a page size
Fit to image produces pages that match each picture exactly, with no white borders — ideal for viewing on screen. A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the standard paper size in most of the world, and US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is standard in the United States and Canada. With A4 or Letter, each image is scaled to fit the page while keeping its proportions, and landscape images get a landscape page automatically.
Keeping the PDF small
A PDF is roughly as big as the images inside it. Phone photos are often 3–5 MB each, so ten photos can make a 40 MB PDF — too large for many email providers and upload forms. Before converting, run your photos through the Image Compressor or the Image Resizer; a scan at 1600 pixels wide is still perfectly readable. Already have several PDFs? Combine them with Merge PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Can I combine several images into one PDF?
Yes. Add as many images as you like, arrange them with the arrow buttons, and they become pages of a single PDF in that order.
Does it work with PNG and WebP too?
Yes. Despite the name, you can add JPG, PNG and WebP images, and mix them in one PDF.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The PDF is built in your browser with the open-source pdf-lib library. Your images never leave your device — important for ID cards, receipts and contracts.
Will image quality be reduced?
JPG images are embedded as-is with no re-compression. Other formats are embedded losslessly. To make a smaller PDF, compress the images first with our Image Compressor.
Is there a watermark?
No. The PDF is completely clean with no watermark or branding.
